i began formula pretty early on. (this was so my dad couldn’t have an excuse not to be up with me in the middle of the night). i’ve tried a few different formulas, with varying degrees of enjoyment. i started out with similac brand formula – because my parents got a bunch of coupons from them and some free samples. that was all right, but i am fairly confident that it gave me acid reflux. once my dad stayed home with me in october 2007, i switched to similac organic. one word, four syllables. con-sti-pa-tion. that experiment last roughly 5-7 days, and i was promptly switch back to the acid reflux inducing similac “advanced”. i stayed with this until i moved to michigan where the doctor recommended some medicine for my acid and maybe switching formulas. from here i tried enfamil. this was not too shabby, but very expensive ($26 a can). after a can of that, my mom decided to try the target brand equivilent ($12). i have had no other formula since. no acid, hardly any spit-ups and it doesn’t bind me up, nor break the bank.
late in 2007, i began eating rice cereal. i liked the idea of eating cereal because it helped me stay fuller, longer. rice cereal, however had the same effect on me that the organic formula did. let’s just say things got painful. enough said? luckily, in january, i was able to move onto oatmeal, which is much, much better. there are other varieties, such as barley and mixed grain, but for right now, i am happy with oatmeal.
then, i moved into being able to try something with different flavors – baby food. i started with carrots, which has been well documented on this site. i will say again, however, that carrots are not, NOT, meant to be warm and soupy. i then moved on to sweet potato, one of my mom’s nemeses. those were much better than carrots, but at this point i was yet to be sold on the flavors of baby food. then pears came along. yummy! i have yet to have my fill of pears. they always stop giving them to me, but i could keep going on them. they are good. just the other day, i was introduced to squash. i have to say that while much better than carrots, i may like the sweet potatoes a bit better. did i mention that the pears are where it is at, though?
